Easy Decorative Thanksgiving Host Gift

I love hosting Thanksgiving dinners, but I also equally love just going to one that is hosted by friends or family –  don’t have to worry about any messes after! But I do love to give something to the host whether it be food, wine or something fun. Today we’ll be making an easy and simple rustic wood sign that’s perfect as a DIY hostess gift for Thanksgiving with some simple materials and a free cut file! Jump in and see how easy it is to put together.

Supplies needed to make your own DIY hostess gift:

• Unfinished Wood Sign/Plaque
• Black Chalk Paint
• White Chalk Paint
• Sponge Brush
• Twine
• Vinyl
• Weeding Hook
• Gather Cut File (personal use only)
• Electronic Die-cutter

Step 1. Sand your cutting board if it’s raw or if it’s stained so it’s easier for the paint to adhere. Once sanded, apply a light coat of black chalk paint and let it dry. You want to paint both the front and back sides as well as the edges of the board.

Step 2. Cut your design onto vinyl and weed out the negative areas such as the vinyl surrounding the letters and the inside of the letters and leaves.

Step 3. Once done weeding and the paint is thoroughly dry, transfer your vinyl design onto the cutting board surface. You can use transfer tape or even green painter’s tape to transfer your design. The design will act as a stencil. Isn’t that so easy?

Step 4. Once the design has been transferred and the transfer tape has been removed and you’re sure that everything is adhered well, paint one or two coats of white chalk paint on top of the design. Let it dry.

Step 5. Remove the stencil vinyl and touch up the areas where paint has bled through. Finally, add some twine to finish off the project – and you are done!
